My parents and sister came for a visit over the weekend.  It's always great to have our family here.  It's really tough not seeing them on a regular basis like we're used to.  I really miss getting to go to my Moms for dinner when I'm too lazy to cook, or just letting the kids run over to her house to play whenever they want.  Our weekends normally consisted of cookouts with family and friends and I miss that.  We don't even have a grill yet! :)  We'll get one soon, and hopefully get some cookouts going down south.

The kids have less than 2 weeks left of school.  They are extremely excited for the break!  Luke and Bre are planning to go stay with their Grandma for a week as soon as school is out.  Jolea and Luci can't be away from me that long. ;) I'm not sure if I can be away from Bre and Luke that long either!

I have to say moving so far from home has been a very humbling experience.  Honestly there are times when I think I can't make it another day away from my family, but once I settle and quiet down Jesus gently reminds me that he knows what's best for our family.  Joey's had a crazy busy schedule lately and it often gets lonely and discouraging, but to see him so encouraged and driven definitely calms my heart and assures me that we are where we are supposed to be.  My job is to be supportive, and encourage him and sometimes I'm not always so good at it.  I struggle with selfishness at times and I'm working on getting rid of that.

All in all, we are doing great.  I've never seen Bre so happy. She has so many friends and her focus has dramatically changed.  We deal with less anger issues out of her.  In fact, we really don't have any issues with anger from her anymore.  It's funny how getting her out and away from so many negative and terrible people has changed her outlook and attitude.  Our friends that live here are such an encouragement for her as well.  She absolutely loves Amy and Robert and wants to make them proud just as much as us.  The connection she has with them both amazes me.  She was only able to see them a few times a year, but their relationship with her is very close.  She says that she feels like she has two moms and two dads. I think it's wonderful and I'm thankful to have people in our life that care so much about our kids and want to invest in their lives.  Just seeing the change in Bre is another reminder that we've made the right move.

So I'm making it so far, and doing much better than I anticipated.  I'm learning to enjoy this life and to be content, but most of all learning to let go of the past and push forward to the future.  New life, new home, new attitude, new friends, A NEW US.

"You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness. Eph. 4:22-24

Beauty in a mess

When we moved in this old cactus was in a pot that is half buried in the flower bed.  I've been meaning to dig it out because it was just an eye sore when you were walking in the front door.  Low and behold I came home and look how beautiful it is!  Something so beautiful out of something I thought was a mess!

What a lesson I've learned from a mess of a cactus.  God has an abudant life for us.  One that is superior in quality!  Our season will shift and come in divine alignment with His promises!

"So don't worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring it's own worries.  Today's trouble is enough for today." Matthew 6:33 NLT)

You don't have to be your own savior if you have the SAVIOR!

Mother's Day

My husband never fails to make Mother's Day amazing!  He knows it's a day that I do not look forward to and he goes out of his way to make sure it's a day of fun, laughter and good memories.

Joey's Mother got here last week to visit and we've had a great time!  The kids were beyond excited to have her here for the week.  On Sunday we went to the Island to eat at one of our favorite spots.

The restaurant sits on the bay and is open so the kids can watch the dolphins swim and all the ocean birds.  The food is by far the best seafood I've ever eaten!  We ended the day with a little shopping on the island.

What's for dinner

I cooked this last week for the first times and it was so good and so easy we're having it again!

You simply take some chicken breasts and your favorite beer and throw it in the crockpot!  We used Dos XX because that's Joey's beer of choice.  I'm not a beer drinker nor do I even like the taste of beer, but the chicken was delicious!

And for you weight watchers it's only 3 points!

  • 2lbs skinless, boneless chicken breasts (I used 8 breasts, 4oz ea)
  • 1 bottle or can of your favorite beer (I used Guinness)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp dried oregano
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper

  1. Place all ingredients in the crock pot, and cook on high for 4-5 hrs, or low for 6-8 hrs.
  2. Feel free to change out the spices and herbs and use whatever you’d like.
Preparation time: 5 minute(s)
Cooking time: 6 hour(s)

Home for the weekend

This weekend we went to visit our family.  We had a great time!  It's been about a month since we had seen everyone.  It was so good to see our family.  I've missed my parents something awful.

While we were in town my beautiful daughter got her braces off!  Isn't she gorgeous?!
