Arctic Blast

We've had a little arctic blast moving through Texas this week!  Cool weather is my favorite to run in, but when it gets below freezing that's another story.  I've braved the cold and got in 3 weekday runs.  All three were just 3 milers.

We could possibly get cold rain this weekend so the long run could be interesting!  Thank goodness the treadmill is always an option!  However, running in the cold is not too bad when you have the right cold weather running gear!

Last December Bre and I ran our first half and it was around 28 degrees that evening.  I think we had the gear mastered.  The run turned out great.  We were chilly at the start but warmed up pretty quick.  During cold days like today I always run in a pair of cold gear running pants.  Most of my pants are Nike, but there are many great brands out there.  I also layer with a long sleeve tech shirt, and a hoodie.  My procompression socks are great too, layered with some nike dry fit socks on top.  For the face and head I wear my northface beanie, my hood and a scarf for my face.  The scarf is great for warming up the cold air before you breath it in.  After I started using it I had less trouble with exercise induced asthma triggered by the cold air.   And last but not least, don't forget your gloves and chap-stick! If you have any other tips for running in the cold I would love to hear your favorites!

And now a few photos for your viewing enjoyment!!!

My sweet Luci sporting he cold gear!  This picture reminds me so much of her brother Colt.  Especially that sweet smile!

                                                          My beautiful, oldest daughter!

My new shoes!  I'm a Saucony Triumph girl and I ordered these on sale since the new ones were coming out!  Now that I've seen the new ones I've got my #whoaface on and I can't wait to get them!

My sweet Luci was sick and fell asleep on Jonas. :)  He just laid there and they both napped!

New Running Partner

Let me introduce my new running partner....Jonas!

He is only 3 months old now, so we aren't actually running him yet.  Just taking some short walks and getting him used to his leash.  He gets totally worn out by just a couple of miles if you can't tell by the photos.  He has so much energy and does great on his exercise walks.  He is such a great dog, and I can't wait until he's older and can join me for longer runs.  He is a vizsla, pronounced ( Veeeshla), and is a hot mess!  Enjoy the puppy love photos!

Yes, our bed gets a little overcrowded at times.  Jonas is now crate trained, so the night time snuggles have ceased as of now. Except for sweet Luci.  She claims she will start sleeping in her own bed every night when she's twenty.  :)  For now, I enjoy every snuggle I can get from her.

Back to the grind

We are officially back to school!  I also had a job opportunity at a nearby school and decided to go ahead and take it.  I will be honest and say that it hasn't been easy for me to leave the kids.  It's hard for me to justify investing more of my time somewhere besides with my family, but I'm giving it a try! The first week was tough and consisted of A LOT of tears! :)  This week is going great and I have some of the best coworkers and administrators here.

The kids are doing great this week.  Adjusting to getting up early again hasn't been too bad for them.  It's hard to believe I have a junior in high school, and a 4th and 5th grader!  Bre is still doing online school at home and it's going great for her.  She began her semester at the end of July and will finish this semester around November.  My sweet Luci is enjoying time with her Memaw and doing some preschool at home with her.

Race training is going well.  I did miss my long run Sunday.  I was just exhausted and getting ready for the first day of school.  The previous 3 weekends consisted of a 10 miler, another 10 miler, then a 13.1.  So cutting back this weekend was well needed.  My weekday runs usually consist of anywhere from 2.5 to 6 mile runs.  I try to get in at least 3 a week then a long run on the weekends and that's working well for me. :)

Here is my 2 mile run from Sunday!  I actually kept my pace under a 9 minute mile which is great for me when running around town!

I finally broke down and ordered my shakeology!  I've sure been missing this in the mornings!  It just gives me the boost I need to get through the day without being hungry and I love the ingredients.  I've also signed back up to be a beachbody coach so if you're in need of any products just shoot me an email!  If you haven't tried shakeology I really encourage you to do it!  Using shakeology and doing turbo fire is what helped me lose 30 pounds and got me into running.  I love this stuff!

Training Week 5

Have I mentioned that I am so excited to be running my first Disney Marathon in January?!!!  Just finished week 5 of training.  I've been trying to stay on track but sometimes I just end up doing my own thing rather than following the training plan so strictly.  I actually got in around 22 miles last week.

Monday - 5k
Tuesday - 3 miles
Wednesday - rest day
Thursday - 10k
Friday - cross train
Saturday - rest
Sunday - 10 miles

I started yesterdays 10 miler around 7:30 last night.  I normally don't do long runs that late in the evening and I think I paid for it!  I ran in my compression socks, came home for a nice hot bath to wash all the bugs off my body that were stuck everywhere, drank my recovery drink, and then put on a clean pair of compression socks.  I still had some leg soreness and achiness while I slept, and I had terrible trouble sleeping!  I should've just slept in my socks!

I also think I had too much of a calorie deficit yesterday.  The deficit was around 1,000 calories.  I would normally never let that happen.  I definitely need to watch those calories a little closer on my long run days! I started the run with a salted caramel gu, and also had a mid run gu which helped tremendously!
As far as the actual run, it went great!  We ran a slow, easy pace, where we could carry conversation the whole time.  We also ran several inclines which is great for training!   I think all this road running is making me so much stronger.  I trained a lot on the treadmill for some of my first races because I didn't have easy access to running on the roads like I do now!  I can tell such a big difference in my endurance!  I am seriously loving our new house and neighborhood!

Vega Sport Pre-Workout Energizer

As a SweatPink Ambassador I get the opportunity to review some amazing products!  I am so thankful I was chosen to review this product from Vega Sport.  I am a long distance runner so I was excited to try The Vega Sport Pre-Workout Energizer.   The box states it will “increase energy, endurance, and mental focus.” It is also dairy-free, gluten-free and soy-free, and as all Vega Sport products, it is plant-based so it is vegan.  I am a huge fan of acai berry so the flavor was perfect for me.

The first time I tried it I poured into an 8 oz. shaker bottle of water.  The texture and color are very natural and your first thought when looking at it may be that it doesn't look good, but don't be deceived by the look!  I shook it first to make sure it was well mixed then added ice.  The taste was amazing to me!  I thought the product was much better tasting than many of the other products I have tried.  The mistake I made was using this on a night run.  It did exactly what it said and gave me energy and I was unable to sleep well that night.  I tried it next on the morning of my long run.  I set out to run 8 miles that morning and was feeling so good I did 10 miles.  I am loving this product!  I also found that it is great in smoothies as well.  I mixed it with a frozen tropical fruit blend and coconut milk for an awesome pre-workout smoothie!

The ingredient list is also sold me on this product.  The ingredient list is: coconut seed oil, kombucha, yerba mate (leaf), Devil’s claw extract (root), green tea (leaf), rhodiola (root), rosavins, ginseng (root), turmeric (root), ginger (root), as well as sprouted whole grain brown rice syrup, organic palm nectar, natural blackberry, strawberry, raspberry, acai and pomegranate flavors, citric acid, malic acid, red beet powder.  I was happy to see there were no artificial sweeteners added as well.

If you would like to try this product, and I recommend you do, please go here to order and FUELYOUR BETTER!

Training week 2

Week two of training is complete and boy was it a hot one!  Here's what this week looked like....
Monday - 5 miles on the treadmill
Tuesday - 2 mile run/walk
Wednesday - rest
Thursday - 2 mile run/walk
Friday - 4.25 mile run
Sunday - 5 mile run

Texas has hit the triple digits this last week, but we are expecting a cool front and some rain this week and I'm really looking forward to some cooler runs!

I'm getting extremely excited about the Disney Marathon!  We have all of our dining reservations booked and I can't wait to enjoy the parks with my husband.  We have never taken a trip to Disney without the kids and haven't been anywhere without them since 2005!  We are going to have a blast!

Registration for the Disney Princess Half Marathon opens tomorrow!  I so wish I could register for this one too!  Maybe next time.  Two trips to Disney back to back is a little tough to swing.  I'm already saving up for next year though!  My dream is to be able to run them all every year!  I'm going to get there!

I hope training is going well for all my fellow runners!  Happy training!

4th of July

We had an incredible weekend!  We left Thursday evening and headed to Jellystone Park for some relaxing and camping.  It was such a great time with lots of laughter!  We made some amazing memories with some dear friends as well.  The kids really didn't want to leave.

The park was nestled in the pines of East Texas and had swimming pools, put put golf, tennis, volleyball, fishing, crafts, nature trails, lots of bike riding, and some crazy big bubble for jumping!  I don't think the kids stopped from the time they woke up until they went to bed.  I'm not crazy about camping but I really enjoyed this place.  I loved being able to relax and enjoy the weekend without a to do list.  Getting my husband away is such a chore sometimes but we are so thankful we went!  I hope all of you enjoyed your holiday weekend!

I've decided taking my good camera along is going to be a must as well.  The iphone photos are just not cutting it anymore!

Happy July!

July is finally here!  Walt Disney World marathon training officially begins for all the runners today!  I'm very excited about this journey.  It's hard to believe I'm really training to run at the happiest place on earth.  Most of you know all know why Disney is so special to our family and why this race is so important to me.  I'm totally going to embrace and soak in this entire experience!  I'm such a believer in dreams and making them come true.  If you can dream it, you can do it!

This weekend we are headed out for a family camping trip!  It's so hard to drag me away from home, but I'm going.  It will be nice to relax and not worry about housework for a few days. I hope all of you enjoy the 4th of July!  Also, happy training to all the WDW Marathon weekend runners!

A few firsts!

Training officially began for me yesterday.  I decided to go ahead and get started since we'll be running several half marathons this fall.  Yesterday was just a 2 mile run.  8:19 was not my average pace btw.  I think my watch is just showing the pace I was running when I stopped.  I was also going downhill so that may have contributed to that pace.  :)  My average pace was actually closer to 9:30.  I would love to be able to maintain a 9:30 pace for a half or full but for me that just isn't doable at this time.  Maybe one day!

This week I also received my first Vox Box from influenster.  I love these little boxes!  I received the TLC box and so far I have loved all the products inside!  The TLC box came with Neo to Go, which is so handy for a mom of 4!  I also received a coupon for a free Gelato Indulgence, which I can not wait to try out, Ivory bar soap, Avon Anew Reversalist Express Wrinkle Smoother, Puffs to Go, and a Shell Fuel Rewards card.  I can't wait to give all these products a try!  Thank You influenster!
These products were received complementary for testing purposes from influenster...

And here is a picture of my sweet Jolea running at her track and field day.  This picture was taken by a sweet photographer friend.  She takes amazing photos!  Jolea is my little sprinter.  She came in first place in all her running events.  Luke also ran that day but my friend didn't get any photos of him this time.  He did great as well.  I can't wait to sign these two up for their first 5K!

On the move!

What an exhausting few weeks! We've spent the last few weeks moving!  Not only ourselves but my parents also.  We bought a house and got somewhat moved in and then had to move my parents out of theirs.  Everyday has consisted of either packing, unpacking, loading or hauling.  My parents are completely out of their house and will start building their new house soon!

With all the moving, I did manage to get in 4 days of running last week.  I came down with a nasty cold over the weekend so I took a break those days.  Training won't officially begin until next month.  I'll have trained about 30 weeks before the marathon at Disney.  I'm hoping to squeeze in several half marathons and earn the half fanatics status. :)

I am also honored to have been chosen to be a sweat pink ambassador!  It's a great organization and I'm excited to represent!  With that, I will have some awesome reviews and giveaways coming up on the blog real soon so be watching!

246 Days

Walt Disney Marathon weekend is only 246 days away, but hey, who's counting?!! :)  I haven't really started a training plan yet, just running when and how far I want.  I've only gotten in 5 miles this week.  3 miles yesterday and 2 miles today.  Planning on running Thursday and then getting in a good 7 or 8 miler this weekend.

I've started going back to eating a little cleaner.  Living with my parents has caused me to eat out way too much and I've gained about 4 pounds since the Cowtown marathon.  I was around 124 pounds and have gotten up to about 128 now.  128 is good weight, but I'm still needing to lose some body fat so I'm planning to incorporate a lot of weight training before the big races start in the fall.  My core and arm muscles are in definite need of strength for sure! Runner problems!

I've also started planning our trip to Disney.  Joey and I are considering taking this trip alone.  It's going to be a busy time because I want to hit the expo and enjoy all the Run Disney happenings that are taking place so it isn't going to be like our normal family vacations.  We do plan to enjoy our favorite dining spots while there.  We are also looking into staying at a value or moderate resort.  I want to plan a trip for next summer with the whole family so I want to save as much money as possible on this trip.

I'm extremely excited about this marathon.  When I first began running I would always dream of running in Disney.  Disney is that special place for our family where we have so many amazing memories.  Every smell, every ride, every sound I hear there reminds of Colt.  He loved all things Disney and it has rubbed off on every member of our family.  Disney is our place...our special place.  Colt has always been my inspiration.  Everytime I want to quit I think of his fight and it pushes me harder.  This is the race I've always dreamed of doing, always wanted to run for Colt.  It's going to be an amazing experience and I can't wait to cross that finish line.  #IRunforColt

I'm Back!

So I almost gave up the blog, but then decided....nahhh!  It's definitely in need of some updates so I need to get on that.  I decided to start blogging again because I want to document this year coming up.  I've registered for my dream race!  The Walt Disney World Marathon!  The training is starting and I want this entire experience to be here so I can look back at it anytime. :)  So if you're not a fan of running or fitness I'm sorry but these posts may bore you!

Over this past year I've ran several races.  My first half, my first marathon, and several 5ks have been consuming my time and I love it!  I have several half marathons planned for this year, and full marathon in December and January.  I'm training to PR in December, but the Disney marathon I'm not planning for a PR.  I'm planning on taking advantage of every photo op along the course. :)  It's going to be an awesome experience so please stick with me and maybe I can encourage some of you to get off the couch and get in on all this fun!

Hope on...Journey on

No time for blogging lately!  My plate is completely full.  With marathon training, college, homeschooling, being Mommy and a wife my days stay pretty busy.  The marathon is about 30 days away and I'm pretty excited about it and scared at the same time.  I'm pretty sure I'll finish it, but unsure of the time it will take me. :)

I've also completed one class online that I started a few months ago, and registered for two more this semester.  I'm determined to finish my degree this time.

We've landed back in our home town also.  We needed to be closer to family.  This particular town will likely not stay our home, but we do plan to be closer than 7 hours away this time.  I thought we could come back here after a year and have a fresh start, but some things never change.

The little kids are attending the local public school and they love it.  They love getting to see and spend time with their friends.  I know most of the teachers there and I honestly couldn't go wrong with any of them.

Bre started public school, but we withdrew her after 4 days.  Like I said, some things just never change.  It was a very bad atmosphere for her.  She had come so far letting go of the past and anger issues we had dealt with regarding things that went on prior to our move, and I didn't want to see her fall back into that again.  She is now attending an online private christian school which she LOVES!  After she completes the courses she's enrolled in now, she has only 8 credits left to graduate.  She will also graduate with a high school diploma and YES she will walk the stage and receive it!  She has access to all the things that public school offers and more, such as sports, cheerleading, clubs.  She just gets much better field trips. ;)  She's doing great, and is actually ahead of pace and making great grades.  Today she was actually finished with her assignments by 10:00 and is still ahead of pace in her courses.  She recently took her first ACT and scored amazing!  I was so proud of her!  She's excited to begin some college courses next year and continues to go back and forth from law school to pediatric oncology as her future career! I love hearing about her big dreams!

With everything life tends to keep throwing our way, we just HOPE ON...JOURNEY ON.

Things are going ok, but I have to say that I am really missing this place!  I want to get back to my city by the bay.....
