April races!

Disclaimer: I received free entry to Wonder Wonder 5K Dallas as part of being a Bibrave Pro. Learn more about becoming a Bibrave Pro, and check out bibrave.com to review, find, and write race reviews!

It's been such a great couple of months getting back into running.  I took a month off and it was the best thing!  After my stress fracture I developed a pretty bad weakness in my right leg. Anytime I tried to ramp up the training or speed work I would get horrible inflammation in my shin that would sometimes last months.  A knot would even develop with heat and pain.  Then came a severe case of plantar fasciitis.  It was so bad I would have throbbing pain and could barely walk after running.  After CIM and then the 3M half, my body just felt wrecked.  I was hurting, having stomach issues that I didn't realize was affecting my energy levels, bones, and overall health.

Over that month off I put a lot of focus into eliminating the foods that were causing my stomach issues.  I quit eating processed foods, refined flours, and cut back on gluten and dairy as well.  Things are finally looking up.  I started back running 15 minutes at a time.  Not because that's where my fitness was but so that my body had to time to adjust to the stress and to make sure that nothing flared up!  I am now up to running an hour multiple times a week.  I'm training 6 days a week, one biking day, and one full rest day.

This month I'm running the skyline 10k in Dallas.  I've never ran this race and I'm very excited.  I'm not racing, but using it as a training run for a quality session.

On the 28th,  I'm headed to run the Wonder Woman 5K!  This race is also a first for me and I'm so excited about it.  I have a couple friends joining me, and running this one for pure joy!  I may even walk a little.  I picked this race because who doesn't love Wonder Woman!  It's been such a tough couple of years of running for me, and I'm excited to get out there and just run for the pure joy of running.  This race is also taking place near the Rangers Ballpark, which is going to be an awesome course!  It's not too late to sign up!  If you want to join me please use "WWBIBRAVE" for 10% off registration!  I hope to see you there!

Hot Chocolate 15k 2019!

I recieved a race registration for The Allstate Hot Chocolate 15k Dallas to review as part of being a Bibrave Pro.  Learn more about becoming a Bibrave Pro and check out bibrave.com to review, find, and write race reviews

The Allstate Hot Chocolate 15k is one of my favorite races!  I love kicking off the new year running this race with friends!  This is my 4th year running and it keeps getting better year after year!

They host an awesome expo for a distance less than a half marathon, and you can sample the hot chocolate while there.  I think they make the best hot chocolate I've ever tasted!  Picking up your bib is also super simple!  You can get your bib in any line because they print off your info and stick it right on the bib.  Also, if you're unable to pick up your bib they do offer to mail your packet for a fee of $15.  I think it's a great offer for those that live out of town or who have rigid work schedules.

I've grown to love this course.  The first half is a slight uphill climb.  It's not too difficult though, and its followed by a nice downhill to the finish line.  There is one slight hill on the back half of the race, but all the downhill makes up for it! If you're wanting to negative split a race, this is one for you!

Lets talk about race swag!  One of the reasons I love this race is the awesome jackets!  I still have all of my jackets from the previous years and wear them all the time.  You get the jacket whether you run the 15k or the 5k.  Although, if you run the 15k, you do get the awesome chocolate shaped medal!  The swag doesn't stop here though!  Once you cross the finish line you make your way to the hot chocolate!  You get an awesome cup of the best hot chocolate and a plastic bowl full of melted chocolate, marshmallows, rice krispie treat, banana, and a few other treats for your dipping pleasure!  This is definitely reason enough for me to sign up year after year!

Year after year I run this race, and I don't like missing it!  It's one of the best!  There's a reason why I keep coming back.  The race is so fun!  I also love to make it a family affair if weather permitting.  It's such a fun atmosphere!  I can't recommend this race enough!  My recommendation is get online and sign up today while prices are low!  I will see you there next year!

Kicking off the 2019 Race season!

I kicked off my 2019 race season with a spontaneous half marathon in Austin, TX!  The 3M half!  I wouldn't say I was trained for this.  Just coming off CIM in December and slowly building the miles back up, and experiencing some nasty Plantar Fasciitis, leg pain, and some stomach issues!  I went into this race relaxed and just wanting to get out there and run the distance because I love to run.  The course, like CIM, was a net downhill.  But don't let that fool you! There were plenty uphills in that course!  Running relaxed, I walked away with a 2 minute PR of 1:48.  Checking off one the goals I had set for 2019 to break 1:50 in the half and we're only 20 days into the year!  That excites me!

Next up is the Allstate Hot Chocolate 15k!  I look forward to this race every year!  It's an awesome course that's easy to negative split and a great course to get a PR at if that's your thing.  The last half of this race is downhill so be prepared to run fast!  I'm not going into this race this year to PR, but just to have fun with my friends.  I think it's important to step away from racing occasionally and just get out there to run and have fun!  If you want to join me, it's not too late to sign up!

Other than these two amazing races, I have several 5Ks on the schedule, as well as another spring half where I'll pacing.  Spending some time this spring to just enjoy running without the pressure of paces and races!  In June, things will get serious again as I begin training for Chicago Marathon!

What does your 2019 race calendar look like?  Also, send me a message if you will be running the Allstate Hot Chocolate 5k or 15k!  I would love to meet up!!

Zwift Run!

Disclaimer: I received a Zwift Run Pod to review as part of being a BibRave Pro. Learn more about becoming a BibRave Pro (ambassador), and check outBibRave.com to review find and write race reviews!

Are you a Zwifter?  I was so excited when my Zwift run pod came in the mail!  If you haven't heard of Zwift, it is a virtual cycling and now a running community.  You can with anyone anywhere all from the comfort of your home or gym!  All you need is a the footpod, a treadmill, and the Zwift app.  When I say anywhere, I really mean anywhere!  I have ventured through New York, London, the jungle, and even through a volcano, and with so many other biking and running by my side.  It's been so much fun and it makes my treadmill runs such an adventure these days!

I think the Zwift run app is an awesome idea!  Treadmill runs can sometimes be so boring and this allows a great way to run and be social!  Sometimes our busy schedules don't allow us to do group runs and this app allows you to run with people anytime you're on the treadmill!  It is also customized to your fitness level.  You can train for anything from a 5K, half marathon, marathon, and even triathlons!  It will also connect to your strava and Garmin connect!   Such an amazing device to keep you motivated!

I can't encourage you enough to download this app!  When you do, let me know and we can do some runs together!
